Contax G2 Review – Autofocusing Rangefinder Brilliance!

August 29, 2015 by mspau 12 Comments

I wish Contax was still making cameras. Every one that I have had a chance to handle was a pure joy. The Contax G2 is a fascinating little unit – an autofocusing rangefinder! The word “unique” gets bandied around a lot by people who have a limited grasp of it’s definition : unique juːˈniːk/Submit adjective […]

My most popular image ever...⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ MSP Back Catalogue Retrospective Day #27⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I had been studying light, shadow, technique and composition for over 18 months in a pretty committed way. Trudging off the train at Richmond Station, I spotted the perfect combination of light and composition for this image. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Patience was the key - whilst the pedestrian tunnel was extremely aesthetically pleasing, the composition needed some human interest. It was very quiet at Richmond Station, so I stood there for a few minutes trying to figure out what to do.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ A commuter walked past from behind me - but walking down the tunnel just didn't quite work. At the same time, a commuter walked right to left at the T walkway at the base of the tunnel. I knew I had a shot...⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I waited for another subject to be isolated, walking across the frame at the bottom of the tunnel. Mission accomplished. I actually only took a single shot - which is a bloody miracle for me!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Geek Details :⠀⠀ Mamiya M7ii - 80mm lens - Kodak e100 E6⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #mamiyam7 #mamiyam7ii⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #richmondstation #trainstations #commuters⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ From the Melbourne Street Photography Blog www.mellbournestreetphotography.com.au ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #melbournestreets #melbournestreetphotography #melbournestreetphoto ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #streetphotography #streetphoto #streetview #streetportrait #streetphotographers ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #film #filmisnotdead #filmphotography #ishootfilm #analogue #filmcamera #believeinfilm #blackandwhite #filmfeed #analogphotography #photography #shootfilm #buyfilmnotmegapixels #staybrokeshootfilm #filmphoto ⠀⠀
IMSP Back Catalogue Retrospective Day #26⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Another bar portrait of an awesome punk kid at The Corner Hotel in Richmond. Whilst I do not condone the habit, smokers always have something to do with their hands in portraits!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ A great example of having a little bit of dutch courage - enough to go over and ask if I could take his portrait. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Geek Details :⠀⠀ Nikon FM - 35mm Lens - Delta iso 3200⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ From the Melbourne Street Photography Blog www.mellbournestreetphotography.com.au ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #nikonFM #delta3200 #Thecornerhotel #punkisnotdead #punk #punkkid⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #melbournestreets #melbournestreetphotography #melbournestreetphoto ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #streetphotography #streetphoto #streetview #streetportrait #streetphotographers ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #film #filmisnotdead #filmphotography #ishootfilm #analogue #filmcamera #believeinfilm #blackandwhite #filmfeed #analogphotography #photography #shootfilm #buyfilmnotmegapixels #staybrokeshootfilm #filmphoto ⠀⠀
MSP Back Catalogue Retrospective Day #25⠀ ⠀ My last day at work with all the friends I made at Lion. We finished up at The Corner hotel. I brought a camera and have a lovely set of images to remind me of the great times working on a range of delicious products. ⠀ ⠀ I am a bit of a sook, so it was a pretty sad day, by the time I left to go home... ⠀ ⠀ The mood of the day for me was perfectly captured by this image - it started raining in the beer garden and I spotted it hitting the tables that weren't undercover. ⠀ ⠀ A real feeling of pathos that reflected how I was feeling...⠀ From the Melbourne Street Photography Blog www.mellbournestreetphotography.com.au ⠀ ⠀ Geek Details :⠀ Nikon FM3a - 50mm Lens - Neopan 1600⠀ ⠀ #nikonFm3a #nikonFseries #thecornerhotel⠀ ⠀ #melbournestreets #melbournestreetphotography #melbournestreetphoto ⠀ ⠀ #streetphotography #streetphoto #streetview #streetportrait #streetphotographers ⠀ ⠀ #film #filmisnotdead #filmphotography #ishootfilm #analogue #filmcamera #believeinfilm #blackandwhite #filmfeed #analogphotography #photography #shootfilm #buyfilmnotmegapixels #staybrokeshootfilm #filmphoto ⠀
MSP Back Catalogue Retrospective Day #24⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ A serendipitous shot from Melbourne Museum. They had a visual illusion exhibition. I walked into one of the exhibits - it was quite dark - and saw a kid in there. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ As I had a Rangefinder loaded up with iso1600 film and set up for hyperfocal distance snaps - it was a simple case of "point and shoot". And hope for the best. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I loved how it turned out. The slower shutter speed combined with a little bit of movement of the subject resulted in a spooky and disorientating image. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Geek Details :⠀⠀ Voigltander R4a = 21mm Lens - Neopan 1600⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #voigtlander #voigtlanderR4a #neopan1600⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ From the Melbourne Street Photography Blog www.mellbournestreetphotography.com.au ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #melbournestreets #melbournestreetphotography #melbournestreetphoto ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #streetphotography #streetphoto #streetview #streetportrait #streetphotographers ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #film #filmisnotdead #filmphotography #ishootfilm #analogue #filmcamera #believeinfilm #blackandwhite #filmfeed #analogphotography #photography #shootfilm #buyfilmnotmegapixels #staybrokeshootfilm #filmphoto ⠀⠀
